Friendship House MSU’s Zoom Meeting: Natural English with Teacher Wes
Teacher:
Teacher Wes, who has a Cambridge University accredited Certificate of English Language Teaching and was a former Friendship House English Grammar and TOEFL Test Preparation teacher.
Description:
Firstly, I salute your efforts and determination to learn a second language. This is by no means an easy task and some of you are spending countless hours behind the screen to take your English to the next level. I would be more than happy to assist you in your journey and try to make it an enjoyable experience.
This class is for everyone who is seeking to develop their listening and reading skills, use English naturally in every day situations or build their vocabulary. Language will be presented to you in a clear context, which will help you retain it. You will also have numerous opportunities to practice using specific grammatical points and vocabulary by performing real-life tasks; things you would actually do living in EL or in any other English-speaking country. We will additionally explore phrases that native speakers often use such as phrases for giving advice, expressing opinions, etc.
By the end of the spring term, you will be better able to:
- discuss the benefits of change using the second conditional
- give a talk about the value of sports using a range of phrasal verbs (take up, put off, build up, etc)
- write a semi-formal email giving advice on mental health
- express discomfort and annoyance
- write a letter of complaint to Amazon
I have chosen to focus on 5 main aims and the reason behind this is that I want to provide you with as many opportunities as possible to speak your mind, interact with each other and get personalized feedback from me and your classmates.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.
