Learning idioms

Teacher:

Teacher Laura will be leading the ISC group. She holds a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and is an adjunct instructor at MSU’s English Language Center.

Description:

Idiomatic expressions are extremely common in both written and spoken language. The ability to recognize, understand and use idioms is important if one hopes to have a high level of proficiency in a language.  Knowledge of idiomatic expressions also helps to avoid misunderstandings and cultural mistakes. In this course, students will learn how to recognize and interpret idiomatic expressions in context.  Additionally, students will be introduced to a wide variety of idiomatic expressions, including metaphors and proverbs, used in context in both written and oral speech.  Students will also be encouraged to incorporate common idiomatic expressions into their spoken and written vocabulary.
