Practical spoken English and writing English

Teacher: Tim Miank

Teacher Tim has a Master’s degree in English and taught in the writing programs at Lansing Community College for over 30 years. He has taught English at Friendship House for several years.

Description:

During the first seven weeks of this class, we will work on the sounds of
spoken English. Our study and practice will include pronunciation, but we will
spend most of our time hearing and imitating words and phrases as they are
spoken in common American English. Our work here should help you both to
speak English more fluidly and to hear English more clearly.

During our last four weeks, we will “shift gears,” by focusing on writing in
English. We will explore some of the basic principles for effective written
communication, and you will be invited to practice them by producing some of
your own writing.
